 SOA visits I-Math

 

Representatives of the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and the Actuarial Society of the Philippines (ASP) visited the Institute of Mathematics (I-Math) to discuss matters on eligibility of the University of the Philippines to the Universities and Colleges with Actuarial Programs (UCAP) list of SOA. The UCAP list serves as a starting point and resource for students looking for a university actuarial program. UP Diliman, through I-Math, offers the Professional Master’s in Applied Mathematics (Actuarial Science), with courses covering SOA preliminary exams and at least one VEE (Validation by Educational Experience) – approved course.

Dr. Jose Maria Escaner IV, Deputy Director for Academics and Research of I-Math, gave a presentation on I-Math and its Actuarial Program – courses, statistics of enrollees, challenges, etc. A presentation of SOA was given by Ms. Wai Ling Yung, Greater Asia Committee Liaison staff of SOA. The meeting also included a discussion on future activities and collaborations.

The meeting was heldlast 23 May 2019, Thursday, at I-Math. Also present in the meeting were, Senior Global Strategy Advisor Ann Henstrand, and Ms. Lisa Kuklinski, FSA, MAAAof SOA; President Dulce Nevado-Aguilar, Governor Christopher Young, and Frances Anne Macasaet (Secretariat) of ASP; Director Carlene Pilar-Arceo, Mathematical Finance and Actuarial Science Coordinator Jasmin-Mae Santos and Mr. Joseph Angelo Samonte of I-Math; DirectorJeremiah Catral of the Manulife Business Processing Services; and BS Math seniors Christine Albao, Mary Grace Figuracion, Paulo Santos, Ezekiel Tan, and FrancisVale.
