IMath Faculty Gervy Marie Angeles Featured in ‘Her Maths Story’
The Institute of Mathematics is pleased to announce that Dr. Gervy Marie Angeles has been featured in ‘Her Maths Story’, an online initiative dedicated to showcasing the academic and professional journeys of women in mathematics.
In her feature, Dr. Angeles reflects on her journey in mathematics, from the Philippines to Vienna and back, and uses the language of differential equations to describe a path that need not be a “classical solution.”
She also shares her hopes for mathematics in the Philippines: greater public understanding of what mathematics actually is, “a language, a science, and an art,” and a future in which women in graduate mathematics classes are the norm rather than the exception. She closes with advice for early-career women: not to take themselves too seriously, to ask questions, and not to be afraid of making mistakes.
The Institute congratulates Dr. Angeles on this recognition and thanks the Her Maths Story team for featuring a member of our faculty.
