SIMON MARAIS MATHEMATICS COMPETITION
The registration for the Simon Marais Mathematics Competition for UP Diliman students is now open! Students may participate individually or in pairs. The competition is open only to undergraduate students.
The contest will be held on 11 October 2025 at the Institute of Mathematics. The exact time has yet to be confirmed, but it will be a whole-day program from morning until late afternoon. The examination will consist of up to two sessions of exactly three hours each (including reading time), with a 90-minute break in between.
The competition covers topics commonly found in the undergraduate mathematics curriculum at most universities, such as algebra, analysis, combinatorics, geometry, number theory, and probability. However, it is primarily a problem-solving competition and is not designed to directly assess knowledge of mathematical content, although such knowledge may be tested indirectly through problem-solving. Problems from previous years can be found on the official website.
Interested students are requested to send an email to studentaffairs@math.upd.edu.ph with the subject line:
“Registration – Simon Marais Mathematics Competition 2025 at UPD”
The email should contain the following details:
– Individual or Pair
– Name, student number, year level, and degree program of each participant
– Proof of enrollment for this semester (Form 5)
– A copy of your UP ID (scanned copy or a good quality photo)
Please submit your registration email on or before 01 September 2025. Although the official deadline set by the competition is 05 September, we are imposing an earlier deadline to allow time for processing and other administrative matters.
Note that there is a cap of 100 units, where 1 unit equals either 1 individual or 1 student pair, so join as early as you can!
