What is the Math 20 Validation Exam?

The Validation Exam for Math 20 (Precalculus: Functions and their Graphs) is an examination given to incoming freshman students who have not taken Basic Calculus from STEM or equivalent strand of K-12. This exam is optional and may only be taken by freshmen admitted to degree programs that require Math 21.

What are the requirements for application?

Completely filled out application form (download the form from this link)
UP Admission Notice
Certified Photocopy of Student’s High School Transcript of Records (Form 137 – 7th-12th year) or HS Report Cards (Form 138 – 7th-12th year)
Two (2) recent 2×2 pictures of the student
Valid photo identification card with signature of the student

When and where to apply?

Express your intent to take the examination by answering the Google form here. Submit filled out application form with recent 2×2 ID photos and other requirements (enumerated above) to the Office of the Secretary of the College of Science (face-to-face only, no online option).

Deadline of application: 27 June 2024 (Thursday), 4:00 PM

When and where will the exam be administered?

The exam will be administered face-to-face on 01 July 2024 (Monday), 10:00 AM – 12:00 NN, at the Institute of Mathematics building. Room assignments will be posted at the entrance of the building.

What to bring for the exam?

Examination permit issued by the College Secretary
Valid photo identification card with signature
Non-erasable black or blue pen

What is the coverage of the exam?

The exam covers equations and inequalities, two-dimensional coordinate system, graphs of equations, conic sections, functions and their graphs, trigonometric functions and trigonometric identities, inverse trigonometric functions, solutions of triangles, and polar form of complex numbers.
