IMath Seminar: Prof. Hiroshi Yamazawa

You are all invited to a seminar featuring Prof. Hiroshi Yamazawa (College of Engineering and Design, Shibaura Institute of Technology). This is an in-person event and it will be held on Monday, February 19, 2024, 3:00 PM at the Math Bldg Conference Room.

Prof. Hiroshi Yamazawa (College of Engineering and Design, Shibaura Institute of Technology)
Title: Gevrey asymptotics of two simple PDEs
Abstract: In this talk we will consider the following two examples: \[ u(t,x)+t^2\partial_t u(t,x)=f(t,x) \] and \[ u(t,x)+t\partial_x u(t,x)=f(t,x). \] For the first equation, I am planning to talk about

  1. Formal solutions and Gevrey estimates
  2. Borel summability of the formal solution;

and for the second equation,

  1. Formal solutions and Gevrey estimates
  2. True solutions with Gevrey asymptotic expansion.

In item 3, I will explain the method of majorant series and in item 4, I will introduce the construction of true solutions using a method different from the Borel sum method.
