Math 20 Validation Exam (1st semester AY 2023-24)

Who may take the exam?

The Math 20 Validation Exam may be taken by incoming freshman students admitted to degree programs that require Math 21 who have not taken Basic Calculus in STEM or equivalent strand of K-12.

What are the requirements for application?

  • Completely filled out application form (download the form from this link)
  • UP Admission Notice
  • Certified true copy of High School Transcript of Records
  • Two (2) recent 2×2 ID photos
  • Valid photo identification card with signature

How to apply?

Express your intent to take the examination by answering the Google form here. Submit filled out application form with recent 2×2 ID photos and other requirements (enumerated above) to the Office of the Secretary of the College of Science (face-to-face only, no online option).

Deadline of application: 29 June 2023 (Thursday)

When and where will the exam be administered?

The exam will be administered face-to-face on 04 July 2023 (Tuesday), 1:00-3:00 PM, at the Institute of Mathematics building. Room assignments will be posted at the entrance of the building.

What to bring for the exam?

  • Examination permit issued by the College Secretary
  • Valid photo identification card with signature
  • Non-erasable black or blue pen

What is the coverage of the exam?

The exam covers equations and inequalities, two-dimensional coordinate system, graphs of equations, conic sections, functions and their graphs, trigonometric functions and trigonometric identities, inverse trigonometric functions, solutions of triangles, and polar form of complex numbers. Refer to the contents of the Math 20 syllabus here.
