Cesar G. Tapia, 73
The Institute of Mathematics announces with deep sadness the passing of retired colleague Dr. Cesar G. Tapia at the age of 73.
Dr. Tapia joined the Department of Mathematics in 1970 and retired with the rank of Professor 12 in 2012. He obtained BS Math (1970) and MS Math (1976) degrees from UP Diliman and the PhD in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (Operations Research) from the University of New South Wales, Australia in 1991. He also did post-graduate studies at the University of London, University of Bucharest and the Université Scientifique et Médicale (Grenoble) and post-doctoral studies at McGill University (Montreal). He was former UPD Assistant University Registrar and College Secretary of the former College of Arts and Sciences. At the College of Science, he was an Associate Dean for Administration and chaired the Computer Research System Committee that set up the Computational Science Research Center. For many years, Dr. Tapia was the Program Head for Operations Research in the Institute. He published many papers in operations research and mathematical programming and mentored graduate students. Dr. Tapia was also a former affiliate at the College of Business Administration for the DBA program and the Technology Management Center. Dr. Tapia hailed from Tanauan, Batangas.
