The UP Diliman Institute of Mathematics is the leading institution for mathematics research and education in the Philippines. Since 1998, it has been recognized by the Philippine Commission on Higher Education as a Center of Excellence. It is home to the country’s best and more promising researchers in mathematics.

This SEAMS School is hosted by the newly-established academic research group on Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing (NASC).

The University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) is the main campus of the University of the Philippines System (UP System), the national university by virtue of Republic Act 9500.

The UP Diliman Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Development (OVCRD) through its Conference Research Dissemination Grant provides financial support to UPD-NASC to host this SEAMS School in line with the University’s mission and vision.

Co-organizers

Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia is the first technical university in Indonesia that was established in 1959, with a mission to serve science and technology to develop the nation. Born in an atmosphere full of dynamics based on the spirit of the struggle for the Proclamation of Independence, ITB is here to optimize the development of an advanced and dignified nation.

Founded in 1972, the South East Asian Mathematical Society (SEAMS) is composed of members of mathematical societies in Southeast Asia. SEAMS seeks to promote the advancement of mathematics and facilitate exchange and collaboration between mathematicians in the Southeast Asian region, and Asia in general.

The Centre International de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées (CIMPA) is a nonprofit organization that promotes research in Mathematics in developing countries. Located in Nice, it is a UNESCO Category 2 center and is part of the Laboratoire d’Excellence CARMIN (Centres d’Accueil et de Rencontres Mathématiques Internationales). It benefits from the financial support of Germany, France, Norway, Spain, and Switzerland. CIMPA co-organizes and sponsors numerous activities in developing countries including this SEAMS School.

The UP Office of International Linkages (OIL) is a unit under the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs of the UP System, that promotes international academic and research collaboration with partner universities through student and faculty exchange, joint research, network participation, sharing of educational resources, and other international academic and research activities.

UPD-NASC gratefully acknowledges UP OIL for the financial support to host this SEAMS School through the UP System Supported CU Hosting of International Conferences (Hosting) grant.

The Commission for Developing Countries (CDC) of the International Mathematical Union (IMU) provides partial support to this SEAMS School through its Conference Support Program. The CDC has the mandate to manage all IMU initiatives in support of mathematics in the developing world with the following missions: to manage, strengthen, and promote the programs of the IMU in developing and economically disadvantaged countries; to search for funding to support the corresponding activities; and to establish institutional partnerships with scientific organizations with common goals.

Founded in 1973, the Mathematical Society of the Philippines (MSP) is a non-stock, non-profit professional organization of mathematics researchers and educators in the Philippines that is recognized by the International Mathematical Union. The society publishes the journal Matimyás Matematika and runs an annual convention, both geared towards the development of mathematics research and mathematics education in the Philippines, especially at the tertiary level.

The University Hotel is the only hotel in UP Diliman. It was built in the late 1970s by the PCED (Philippine Center for Economic Development) and was later donated to the UP Diliman in the year 1983. From then on it has been a popular venue for seminars, conventions, and private events.

The UP Diliman Mathematics Foundation, Inc. is a nonstock, nonprofit corporation organized to assist the UP Diliman Insitute of Mathematics in the realization of its objectives. Through the years, the Foundation has awarded scholarships, fellowships, professorial chairs, and faculty grants. It has also held seminars, workshops, conferences, and other meetings to promote instruction and research in mathematics. Moreover, the Foundation is into the development of educational materials and the publication and distribution of reports, articles, and books.

Philippine Consortium Inc. is the sole distributor and the only recognized training provider of Wolfram Mathematica in the Philippines. UP, ATENEO, and DLSU have campus-wide access to MATHEMATICA 13.2, the world’s definitive system for modern technical computing.
