ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
Prompted by the growing interest in applied mathematics among Filipino students, a CIMPA Research School entitled Partial Differential Equations: Analysis, Numerics and Applications to Floods and Tsunamis was organized in 2014 at the Institute of Mathematics of UP Diliman. Inspired by the success of the CIMPA School, the school’s organizers (J.E. Lope, M. Roque and P. Donato) deemed it proper to provide young researchers on PDEs with a platform to present their results. Thus, the International Conference on Partial Differential Equations: General Theory and Variational Problems was organized in Cebu in 2016. The speakers at this conference were a mix of young and senior researchers on PDEs, some working on classical solutions of PDEs in the complex domain, some dealt with weak solutions of elliptic PDEs, and still others considered numerical solutions of PDEs in applications.
Due to the good reception of the 2016 PDE Conference by both Filipino and foreign participants, there were informal talks about a follow-up conference to be held a couple of years afterwards. Unfortunately, such a conference did not materialize and then the pandemic set in. Eight years have passed since then, and some of the young participants of that conference have since obtained their PhD degrees. Some have matured into productive researchers, capable of taking on graduate students themselves. Some have reached retirement age but have remained active mathematicians.
Entitled PDEs 2025: Recent Developments in Theory and Applications, this conference aims to again bring together mathematicians from Europe, Japan, South Asia and Southeast Asia, not just to re-establish the friendly ties among the participants of the 2016 Conference, but also to bring new researchers from other universities to further expand this network of PDE specialists.
